RPS was founded in 1998 by a group of industry veterans from 3D Systems. Max Gerdts was the Director of The Technology Center and convinced others in the division to join him in forming a new service bureau. Located in California, the company started with an SLA500 machine and an Italian based vacuum casting machine for urethane prototypes. Shortly thereafter, a second SLA500 was added to accommodate the fast growth. In the ensuing years, RPS continued to acquire various technologies and today offers an expanded range of services that include Injection Molding and CNC machining from China and Taiwan.
